Most "best social media scheduler" lists are written by people who have never scheduled a post in anger. This one is different for a plain reason: we build a scheduler, we watch real posts go through the workflows described here every day, and we checked every price on every vendor's own pricing page on September 2, 2026 before writing a word.

The straight answer: the right scheduler depends on three things, and price is only one of them. How the vendor charges (per social account, per user seat, or a flat plan), whether posts actually publish on their own or arrive as a phone reminder, and how much automation you get (bulk uploads, an API, an MCP server for AI assistants). Everything below is organized around those three questions.

How we compared the schedulers

  • Prices come from each vendor's own pricing page, read on September 2, 2026. Vendors change prices often and several show different currencies by region, so treat every figure as "as of that date" and confirm on the vendor's page before you buy.
  • Taxes are excluded where the vendors say so (most state it on the page).
  • Monthly billing is quoted where the page shows it. Where a page only shows yearly-billed prices, we say so.
  • No affiliate links, no paid placements. PostFast is in the list because we make it; we describe its limits the same way we describe everyone else's.

The best social media schedulers in 2026

PostFast: flat plans, every platform, automation on every tier

Best for: creators, small brands, and agencies that want all platforms on one flat price, and anyone who schedules from an API or an AI assistant.

Price: Starter €12/month (€10 on yearly billing) for 4 social accounts and 150 scheduled posts per month; Creator €29 (€24) for 12 accounts and 1,500 posts; Growth €49 (€40) for 30 accounts; Pro €99 (€82.50) for 120 accounts and unlimited posts; Enterprise €239 (€199) for 500 accounts. 7-day free trial, no credit card.

What stands out: every plan includes all 11 platforms (X, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, LinkedIn, YouTube, Threads, Pinterest, Bluesky, Telegram, Google Business Profile), the REST API and MCP server so you can schedule from code or from an assistant like Claude, and the Social Inbox for comments. Instagram Reels, carousels, and Stories publish automatically, and an Instagram connection does not need a Facebook Page.

Watch out for: the Starter plan caps you at 4 accounts and 150 posts a month, analytics are limited on Starter, and the schedule window is 90 days ahead on Starter (180 on Creator, 240 on Growth, unlimited on Pro and Enterprise). See the full plan table.

Buffer: the per-channel classic

Best for: solo users with one or two channels who want a generous free plan.

Price: Free for up to 3 channels with 10 scheduled posts per channel. Essentials $6 per channel per month on monthly billing ($5 on yearly). Team $12 per channel ($10 on yearly) adds unlimited team members and approval workflows. 14-day trial.

What stands out: unlimited scheduled posts on paid plans, first-comment scheduling, a community inbox on every plan, and an API on every plan including free.

Watch out for: the per-channel model adds up fast (10 channels on Essentials is $60 a month on monthly billing), and Buffer's own pricing page notes reminder notifications "so that you can finish the post natively" for Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube in some cases. If you left Buffer over pricing, the Buffer alternatives comparison goes deeper.

Metricool: analytics-first with a real free plan

Best for: marketers who want planning and analytics in one place and can live without X on the free tier.

Price: Free for 1 brand, 20 posts a month, and 30 days of analytics (LinkedIn and X excluded). Starter from €20/month for up to 5 brands (€16 on yearly) or €37 for 10 brands. Advanced from €54/month for 15 brands (€43 on yearly), up to €172 for 50 brands. Custom plans with white label. VAT excluded.

What stands out: competitor analysis, PDF and PPT reports, recurring scheduling, and an MCP connection even on the free plan.

Watch out for: X is a paid add-on, the API with Zapier and Make sits on Advanced (MCP is listed from the free plan up), and "unlimited" publishing is subject to a fair-use policy. Our Metricool alternatives page compares the tiers line by line.

Publer: cheapest per-account entry

Best for: small accounts that want the lowest per-account price and do not need Stories to auto-publish.

Price: Free for 3 social accounts (no X) with 10 scheduled posts per account. Professional $4 per account per month on yearly billing (the page shows about €4.31 on monthly billing). Business $8 per account on yearly billing adds analytics, best times, and the API. Every tenth account is free. VAT excluded.

What stands out: first comments and threads, unlimited workspaces, a feed preview for Instagram and TikTok, and a wide platform list that includes Telegram, Mastodon, and WordPress.

Watch out for: X accounts only on paid plans, 24-hour post history on the free plan, and the mobile app sends "reminders / push notifications for the scheduled Instagram Stories" rather than publishing them.

SocialBee: evergreen content recycling

Best for: brands with a library of evergreen posts they want to rotate automatically.

Price: Bootstrap $29/month billed monthly or $290 a year (5 profiles, 1 user). Accelerate $49/month or $490 a year (10 profiles, CSV uploads, post approval). Pro $99/month or $990 a year (25 profiles, 3 users per workspace, 5 workspaces). Extra user $10/month. 14-day trial and a 30-day money-back guarantee.

What stands out: content categories with recycling and expiry, post variations, a bulk editor, and an Instagram grid preview.

Watch out for: one user per workspace until Pro, and agency plans live on a separate tab with their own pricing.

SocialPilot: bulk scheduling for small teams and agencies

Best for: teams that upload a month of posts from a spreadsheet and need white-label reports.

Price: Essentials $20/month ($17 on yearly) for 5 accounts and 1 user. Standard $40 ($34) for 10 accounts and 3 users with bulk scheduling and the inbox. Premium $100 ($85) for 20 accounts, 6 users, client approval, and white-label reports. Ultimate $200 ($170) for 40 accounts and unlimited users. Extra accounts $4 a month. 14-day trial, no card.

What stands out: bulk CSV uploads, first comments, location tagging, an MCP server integration, and 24x5 support.

Watch out for: API access is an Enterprise feature, and the entry plan is single-user.

Planable: approvals first

Best for: agencies and teams where every post goes through client or manager approval.

Price: the first 50 posts are free with no time limit. Basic $33 per workspace per month for 60 posts, 4 social pages, unlimited users, and 2 approval types. Pro $49 per workspace for 150 posts, 10 pages, 3 approval types, and the public API. Enterprise custom. Analytics and the social inbox are paid add-ons per workspace. Yearly billing gives 2 months free. Taxes excluded.

What stands out: unlimited users on every plan, multi-level approvals, feed and calendar views, and a grid view on Pro.

Watch out for: posts are capped per workspace per month, each brand or client needs its own workspace, and analytics cost extra.

Postiz: open source with an API on every plan

Best for: developers and teams that want to self-host or wire the scheduler into their own tooling.

Price: Standard $29/month for 5 channels, Team $39 for 10 channels with unlimited team members, Pro $49 for 30 channels, Ultimate $99 for 100 channels, all with unlimited posts. Yearly billing available. You can start for $0, and the code is open source for self-hosting.

What stands out: API, webhooks, an MCP server, an n8n node, a Make integration, repeated posts, and post delays.

Watch out for: self-hosted users pay separately for social app approvals, per the pricing FAQ, and the Standard plan has no team support.

Later: visual planning for Instagram-first brands

Best for: brands that plan around an Instagram grid and want link-in-bio tools included.

Price: Starter $18.75/month on yearly billing for 1 social set (8 profiles, one per platform), 1 user, and 30 posts per profile per month. Growth $37.50 on yearly billing for 2 sets, 2 users, 180 posts per profile, approvals, and an inbox. Scale $82.50 on yearly billing for 6 sets, 4 users, and unlimited posts. Later's page lists yearly billing as 25% off, so monthly billing costs more. 14-day trial. USD, taxes extra.

What stands out: best-time-to-post suggestions for Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok, Instagram Reels audio, and link in bio on every plan, plus approvals and a social inbox from Growth up.

Watch out for: per-profile post caps on the lower plans, and extra social sets and users are paid add-ons.

Hootsuite: enterprise breadth at enterprise prices

Best for: larger teams that need listening, a shared inbox, and team workflows in one platform.

Price: Standard €99 per user per month for 10 social accounts, Professional €199 per user for unlimited accounts, Advanced €399 per user for approvals and message routing, Enterprise custom. Prices shown in EUR to European visitors on annual billing, taxes excluded. 14-day trial, no card, with daily posting limits during the trial.

What stands out: the Wisdom AI assistant with MCP connectors on every plan, listening, and inbox automation on Professional and up.

Watch out for: per-user pricing makes a three-person team roughly €300 a month on the entry plan, and bulk scheduling is disabled during the trial. The Hootsuite alternatives page lists cheaper routes for smaller teams.

Sprout Social: the enterprise care platform

Best for: organizations where social customer care and reporting matter more than price.

Price: Essentials $79 per seat per month on annual billing ($99 billed monthly) for 5 profiles. Standard $199 per seat for 5 profiles with the inbox and review management. Professional $299 per seat for unlimited profiles. Advanced $399 per seat adds the Sprout API and spike alerts. Enterprise custom. 30-day trial, no card.

What stands out: the Trellis AI agent, competitor and paid insights, and social customer care reporting.

Watch out for: the API sits on the $399 tier, and per-seat pricing scales with the size of your team, not your posting volume.

Three pricing models, and what 10 accounts cost on each

The cheapest headline price is rarely the cheapest bill. Take a small brand with 10 social accounts and 2 people who post:

  • Per channel or per account (Buffer, Publer): Buffer Essentials is 10 × $6 = $60 a month on monthly billing, and the second person needs Team at 10 × $12 = $120. Publer Business is 9 × $8 = $72 a month on yearly billing, because the tenth account is free.
  • Per user seat (Hootsuite, Sprout Social): two people means two seats. Hootsuite Standard covers 10 accounts, so 2 × €99 = €198 a month on annual billing. Sprout's Essentials and Standard plans stop at 5 profiles, so 10 accounts means Professional at 2 × $299 = $598 a month on annual billing.
  • Flat plan (PostFast, SocialBee, SocialPilot, Postiz): PostFast Creator is €29 a month for 12 accounts and 5 users per workspace, SocialPilot Standard is $40 for 10 accounts and 3 users, Postiz Team is $39 for 10 channels and unlimited members.

Run your own numbers with the account count you will have in six months, not today.

Three scheduler pricing models: per channel, per user seat, and flat plan

Does it actually publish, or does it remind you?

Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube have historically been the formats that schedulers could not always publish on their own. Buffer's pricing page still describes reminder notifications for those three platforms so you can "finish the post natively", and Publer's mobile app sends reminders for scheduled Instagram Stories. Metricool lists auto publication on its pricing page, Meta Business Suite schedules posts, reels, and stories itself, and PostFast publishes Instagram feed posts, carousels, Reels, and Stories automatically.

If your calendar has Stories or TikTok in it, this single question decides whether "scheduling" saves you time or just moves the reminder to a different app.

A phone reminder notification versus a laptop publishing a post automatically

Automation: bulk uploads, APIs, and AI assistants

  • Bulk CSV uploads: SocialPilot (Standard and up), SocialBee (Accelerate and up), and Buffer (on every plan, text and single-image posts only, up to 100 posts per channel per upload on paid plans and 10 on Free). Metricool's pricing page lists autolists and recurring scheduling rather than a CSV import.
  • API on every paid plan: PostFast, Buffer (including the free plan, with request caps), Postiz. Metricool needs Advanced, Planable needs Pro, Sprout needs Advanced, SocialPilot needs Enterprise.
  • MCP servers for AI assistants: PostFast (all plans), Metricool (including free), Hootsuite (Wisdom connectors), Planable (all plans), SocialPilot (listed in its feature table), Postiz. If you draft in Claude or another assistant, an MCP connection means the assistant can schedule the post without you copying anything.

Which scheduler should you pick?

  • You run one or two channels and want free: Buffer's free plan or Metricool's free plan, depending on whether you need analytics (Metricool) or an inbox (Buffer).
  • You post to many platforms and want one flat bill: PostFast, SocialPilot, or Postiz. Compare account caps first, then posts per month.
  • You manage clients and approvals are the bottleneck: Planable, or PostFast Pro for 30 workspaces, approval status on posts, and workspace branding with white-label client reports.
  • You need listening, care, and enterprise reporting: Hootsuite or Sprout Social, and budget per seat.
  • You want to schedule from code or from an AI assistant: PostFast or Postiz, both with an API and an MCP server on every plan.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the cheapest social media scheduler in 2026?

For one or two accounts, Buffer's free plan (3 channels) and Publer's free plan (3 accounts) cost nothing, and Publer's Professional plan is about $4 per account per month on yearly billing. Once you pass 4 or 5 accounts, flat plans such as PostFast Starter (€12 monthly, 4 accounts) or SocialPilot Essentials ($20 monthly, 5 accounts) usually come out cheaper than paying per channel.

Which social media schedulers have a free plan?

Buffer, Metricool, and Publer offer free tiers, Postiz lets you start for $0, and Planable gives 50 free posts with no time limit. PostFast, SocialBee, SocialPilot, Later, Hootsuite, and Sprout Social offer free trials instead (7 to 30 days).

How many platforms does each scheduler support?

PostFast covers 11 platforms on every plan: X, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, LinkedIn, YouTube, Threads, Pinterest, Bluesky, Telegram, and Google Business Profile. Publer lists 13 including Mastodon and WordPress, Metricool lists 11 plus ads accounts and Twitch, Buffer lists 11 including Mastodon, and Later's social set covers 8. Check the one platform you cannot live without before comparing prices.

Do social media schedulers post to Instagram automatically?

Most publish feed posts and Reels automatically through Instagram's API. The differences show up on Stories and on TikTok and YouTube: Buffer's page describes reminder notifications for those platforms, Publer sends reminders for Instagram Stories, and PostFast publishes Stories, Reels, and carousels on its own.

Can I schedule social media posts from Claude or another AI assistant?

Yes, if the scheduler exposes an MCP server. PostFast, Metricool, Planable, Postiz, Hootsuite, and SocialPilot all list MCP connections, which let an assistant such as Claude create and schedule posts through the tool.

Pick the model before the tool

Decide how you want to be charged, check that your key formats publish without a reminder, and confirm the automation you need is on the plan you can afford. Then start a trial. PostFast gives you 7 days with every platform and the API switched on.
